Hey, bookworms! 👋
Have you ever finished a book and immediately wanted to scream, cry, or spiral with someone—anyone—who just gets it? Same. That all-consuming feeling is exactly what brings us into the world of bookish fandoms—those wildly passionate, creative, and sometimes delightfully chaotic spaces where stories don’t end on the last page. They live on in fan art, TikToks, group chats, late-night rants, and endless theories.
This week, we’re diving deep into the fandom life, especially in the romance fantasy realm (yes, we’re looking at you, Velaris stans and Basgiath cadets 👀). Whether you’re already knee-deep in theories and shipping wars, or you’re just fandom-curious, we’re exploring what makes these communities so special. Are you part of one? Would you ever join? And how has being part of the online book world changed the way you read and connect?
Let’s get into it—fangirling is very welcome here. 💫
The topic is
Bookish Fandoms
Prompts
There are very popular bookish fandoms out there, especially in the romance fantasy genre (Maas, Yarros, LOTR, etc.). Are you part of a bookish fandom? If you are, what do you love about it? If not, do you think you’d ever want to be part of one? Does being part of the online book community help you connect to fandoms?
Falling Into Fiction: The Magic of Bookish Fandoms
There’s something undeniably magnetic about the world of bookish fandoms. Maybe it’s the thrill of getting lost in a story that grips your heart and never quite lets go. Or maybe it’s finding a corner of the internet (or a cozy real-life book club) where people scream about the same plot twists, cry over the same character deaths, and swoon over the same slow-burn romances. Either way, bookish fandoms—especially in the romance fantasy genre—are having a major moment.
From Sarah J. Maas’s sprawling ACOTAR and TOG universes to Rebecca Yarros’s dragon-ridden drama in Fourth Wing, and of course the forever-iconic Lord of the Rings realm, there’s no shortage of fandoms to fall into. These stories go beyond the page—they create worlds people want to live in, characters we wish were real, and communities that feel like home.
So… am I part of a fandom?
Absolutely. And honestly? It’s the best kind of emotional chaos. Being in a fandom means you’re never alone in your love (or heartbreak) over a book. There’s always someone to theorize with, someone to send you fanart at 2 a.m., someone who gets it when you say “I need a minute” after finishing chapter 57. It’s this wild, passionate, sometimes borderline obsessive love for a story that bonds people across continents. It’s magical.
Why fandoms feel like found family
One of the most beautiful things about these communities is how they allow readers to connect beyond just the book. There are fanfics that continue the story, playlists that capture a character’s soul, memes that roast your favorite villain, and edits that make you cry all over again. The creativity is unreal.
But more than that, fandoms are safe spaces. They’re where introverts become extroverts through shared obsession. Where strangers turn into besties because you both hate the same character. Where you can spiral about a fictional universe and not get weird looks—just enthusiastic replies in all caps.
The role of the online book community
Social media has completely revolutionized the bookish experience. Bookstagram, BookTok, BookTube—it’s all a portal into a wider world where stories are just the beginning. I can’t even count how many books I’ve picked up because I saw someone gushing about it online (with tears in their eyes and a warning to “prepare for emotional damage”). And that’s the beauty of it. You’re never reading alone. There’s always a conversation happening, and it’s never too late to join in.
But what if you’re not in a fandom (yet)?
No worries—you don’t have to be in a fandom to love books. But if you ever find yourself wanting more from a story, craving deeper discussions or just wanting to fangirl/fanboy/fanperson about a ship no one in your real life understands… the fandom’s waiting. With open arms and probably a few spoilers. 😅
So whether you’re deep in the Court of Thorns and Roses, flying with dragon riders, or wandering the Shire, bookish fandoms are proof that stories don’t end at the final page. Sometimes, that’s just where they begin.
Are you in a fandom? Which one owns your soul right now? Let’s talk in the comments—bonus points if you bring memes.
