Hello readers! and welcome back to the blog!
🍂 September is here, which means summer has slipped away and we’re turning the page into a brand-new season. I always feel like this time of year carries a sense of “restart”—fresh routines, cozy evenings, and, of course, new reading moods.
The topic is
In Which Season Do You Do Your Best Reading? (Jillian @ Jillian the Bookish Butterfly)
Prompts
Is there a month, quarter or other specific time of year when you do your most reading and why do you think that is? Does this tend to fluctuate every year or is your reading pretty ‘steady’?
Every reader has their own rhythm, and often it’s tied to the seasons. Some people devour stacks of books in the summer sun, while others curl up with endless novels during winter’s quiet nights. Jillian @ Jillian the Bookish Butterfly posed the question: When do you do your best reading? And it got me thinking about my own reading habits.
My Seasonal Sweet Spot
For me, autumn is hands-down my peak reading season. As soon as September rolls in and the air gets a little crisp, I find myself reaching for books more often. There’s something about the cozy atmosphere—warm drinks, blankets, candles, and shorter days—that makes reading feel extra inviting. It also helps that fall tends to usher in new book releases, so my TBR is especially tempting.
Summer Slumps & Winter Comebacks
Summer is usually my slowest season. You’d think long days and vacation time would mean more reading, but I often get distracted by outdoor activities, travel, and general busyness. By contrast, winter brings me back to the page. The post-holiday lull in January and February gives me time to sink into longer, denser books without interruption.
Does It Change Every Year?
My overall patterns are pretty consistent, though there are exceptions. For example, if I join a readathon or stumble into a series obsession, I can burn through books at lightning speed regardless of the season. But in general, autumn and winter are my “power reading” months, while spring and summer are lighter.
The Comfort of Seasonal Reading
I’ve also noticed that my book choices shift with the seasons. Dark fantasy or mysteries feel perfect for fall; wintry classics pair well with January snow; and breezy romances or travel memoirs tend to find their way into my summer bag. In a way, the seasons almost curate my reading mood for me.
So, while I read year-round, my best and most joyful reading definitely happens when the leaves are falling or when the world is wrapped in snow.
✨ Your turn!
Do you find your reading habits shift with the seasons, or are you steady all year long?
