Hello!
Today’s topic is: Holding Onto Books (Anna)
Prompts: Do you always keep your books after you finish reading them? What makes you especially attached to a book? What books are you most likely to get rid of? What books would you never even consider getting rid of? Do you ever give away special books as gifts?
Do you always keep your books after you finish reading them?
I keep all my books. Eventually, I would like to have a library in my house. I also reread books a lot, some more than others, but I’m never really really sure when the desire to read a certain book again will strike me so it works out for me to just keep them. But it also depends on the book. sometimes, I also sell them or donate them. it depends on my attachment to the book
What makes you especially attached to a book?
”emotional attachment is the emotional bond that is developed through repeated interactions with a person, an object, or a thing. The main cause of this attachment is the emotional significance of that particular person, object, or thing to the emotionally attached person.”
You could be emotionally connected to a book if you read it frequently and have a strong personal connection with it, whether that relationship is good or bad.
There are different kinds of attachment.
I often develop emotional bonds with books that have special meaning for me.
Those, like me, who have an emotional connection to a book may read it more than once in order to experience the specific emotion it gives them.
My emotional attachment to books is also influenced by my feelings for the book’s characters. But every one of us has a unique method of reacting to the same feelings. Depending on past experiences, we may be able to identify with some emotions better than others. People identify with personalities that relate to their specific situation because of this. This affection for the characters may ultimately materialize as a love of the entire novel.
When I read a book, I relate to and identify with the story’s events as well as the characters that appear in it.
Reading books may be a way for some readers to cope with tough circumstances, gain inspiration or solace, or connect with others who have gone through similar emotional struggles.
Rereading the book may be like seeing an old friend for someone with such a connection.
Perhaps the most clear indication that a reader may have grown emotionally attached to a book is repeatedly reading the same book. Don’t get me wrong, it’s normal to read books again once or twice (i do it so often ^^).
What books are you most likely to get rid of? What books would you never even consider getting rid of?
Usually. I never consider getting rid of books that are deeply meaningful to me, or that I’m attached to. But sometimes I sell or give away those who didn’t leave me anything after reading them.
Do you ever give away special books as gifts?
I think It depends on the book(s) and the person.
Giving away books can be a thoughtful and meaningful way to share something you enjoyed with others.
Let’s say the book is cherished and I truly want the other person to have it because it has taught you so much and is so precious to you.
However, before giving a book as a gift, you need to take into account the receiver’s tastes and interests as well as the book’s condition.
To me, receiving a gift of a book is very special.
