I couldn’t put the book down once I started. Gianna and Jax have a history, a rapid, furious, and fierce one. Jax walked away from it without saying anything. Gianna is no longer the woman she was years before, after gaining the perfect job she desired and mentorship with a strong and astute businesswoman in the restaurant industry. Until the man reappears in her life, seemingly out of nowhere, just as he left it. She tries to fight him. Resist his charm and the way he makes her feel, but Jax is on a mission.
Jackson appears to be everywhere she goes after he barges into a business deal that has gone wrong for her and her boss. He seems to be attempting to wear her down – with no explanation for his disappearance, which devastated her heart.
Gia knows they didn’t get to know each other very well during their brief affair, but Jax disagrees. When her resistance reaches rock bottom, want explodes, seizes and refuses to let
go, these two blaze up the pages like you wouldn’t believe. Aside from Jackson’s seductive hotness, what I admire about this story is how Gianna comes into her own. Gia gains confidence and grows powerful under Lei’s tuition, exactly like her mentor. This is brought home to her as she chooses to take her relationship with Jax into her own hands and show the man who he’s dealing with. I really admire Gia’s bond with her family, particularly with her brothers. I like that now that she can travel through that world without blinking, she returns to her roots when she becomes confused. The contrast between her family and Jackson’s is startling.
Everything about this short narrative appeals to me. I’m excited to read the finale to their story in AFTERSHOCK

I was completely engrossed in the ups and downs of their relationship!
Jax Rutledge is seductive and swoon-worthy, veiled in mystery and misconception, despite their evident attraction and insatiable yearning. He’s enigmatic and closed-off, almost as if he doesn’t want anyone, especially Gia, to see the real him. Gia, on the other hand, attempts to keep everything on the surface in order to protect her heart. She had loved him and desired more, which he felt unwilling to give. Seeing them together is addictive. Their time together is hot and intense, and despite her inability to resist his magnetism, Gia is not a weak female character. She is focused on maintaining control and gaining the perspective she requires to understand the issue properly.
